Linux tvshows won't show on home menu
#1
hey all.

i cant get tvshows to show on the home menu and i cant really figure out why.
i think its the same problem as this thread: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=136336
but since its an older version of xbmc, it doesent seem to apply directly to my install (gotham)
i have set up the source and followed the wiki and i do have content in the folder, but theres still no show, and im starting to loose my mind since i have searched for days now without progress and so i have run out of posible keywords to search for.

now my question is: is there anyone able to point me in the right direction? if further information is needed in case i have forgotten something, please tell me and i'll try to provide it asap.

thank you so much. also sorry for my english. not a native english speaker.

The thread you pointed to is totally relevant to the Gotham 13 release, so re-read it and check out what it says. Check your folders are named correctly and that you have not set up your skin settings to 'hide TV shows'.

sorry about that. i overlooked the settings option under "skin"
nonetheless i have rechecked what the thread said and rescanned for content and also rechecked the sourcepath.
in the skin settings with the "hide buttons in home menu" subject, the tvshow point is greyed out and wont let me select. could that be an indicator to where i have gone wrong?

Go to the HOME page. Click on VIDEOS->LIBRARY

Do you have 'TV Shows' listed? If not something is wrong with the way you added the source for the TV Shows.

Are you sure you set the selection list to 'this directory contains (TV shows)'.

Are you sure you set the scraper to 'The TVDB'?

Are you sure you didn't tick 'Selected folder contains a single TV show'?

Are you sure your directory/folder structure is named correctly?

tvshows are not listed in library, only in the files menu, but i have set it up the same way i set up movies which is working and also shows in library.

im double checking the rest as im writing:

the directory is set to tv shows.

the scraper is the tvdb

"selected folder contains a single show" is not checked. (gray dot)

the folder structure is as follows:
.../tvshows/The.Big.Bang.Theory.S01.Season.1.720p.5.1Ch.BluRay.ReEnc-[a name]/The.Big.Bang.Theory.S01E01.720p.5.1Ch.BluRay.ReEnc-[a name]

where [a name] as far as i can see would be ignored by xbmc according to this wiki: http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Nam...s/TV_shows

also, thank you for your time and your reply. i apreciate it.

"selected folder contains a single show" requires different naming:
tvshows/The.Big.Bang.Theory/Season01/filename

yeah but the selected folder does not contain a single show.

This sounds like you are overcomplicating the issue/structure/naming.

I use the following structure and it works without fail with XBMC and other library management software (YAMJ) that I have to use on players that cannot run XBMC.

Television/The Big Bang Theory/The Big Bang Theory S01/The Big Bang Theory S01E01.mp4 ........... The Big Bang Theory S01EXX.mp4

You will note that I have cleaned all the "." from the filenames and have deleted all the extraneous crap such as 720p.5.1ch.Bluray. [Filename] as if find it totally unnecessary because XBMC (and YAMJ) provide these details in the GUI,

I use "Bulk Renamer" (FREEBIE on Web) to make the renaming task much easier.

Hope this helps.

@GregiBoy actually the word "Bluray" as well as other keywords in the filename adds the Media_flags (wiki) in default skin and many other skins use it to display distinguishing flag, but resolution, codec, audio channels are not required in filename though.

A little ontopic now to the OP read Set_content_and_scan (wiki) and all associated links and if you still have some issue, Upload a debug log (wiki) also, show us some screenshots wherever applicable to illustrate your settings or whatever you feel difficult to explain. I would also recomend you use the default skin.

Alse another multi-platform free renaming tool is filebot.

I use BluRay, etc on my movie files.

As all my TV files are SD, I find it unnecessary.

hey. sorry for not posting in a couple of days, but i have been occupied at work.

as you suggested i have read the "set content and scan" wiki and links but with no result.
here are the screenshots you requested. the debug log will be uploaded tomorrow.
it has always been at cofluence skin which i like.

1 this is where there should be a menu point called "serier" (translated to danish)
2 this is my "library" view in videos. it should show "serier" as well but it doesent.
3 this is "files" view with "serier" highlighted
4 the "source" setting which is where the shows are located
5 (sorry almost a duplicate)
6 "choose content" settings
7 settings for The TVDB

i hope you can help and thank you for your time.

The.Big.Bang.Theory.S01E01.720p That bit is the problem I think. I could be wrong here but I think that will appear to XBMC as a multipart epsiode which it can never match.

Relevant parts of the wiki
Quote: If you use periods in your file names and include material after the episode number (such as the episode title), you may get a false match to a split-episode pattern if that material begins with a number. This will likely lead to the episode not being added to the library. The recommendation is to use a space or underscore instead to separate the numbers for those files
