Linux XBMC doesn't see HDD until I open it in Ubuntu
#1
Ubuntu 14.04
XBMC 13.1

1st HDD for Ubuntu + XBMC
2nd HDD for films

I've installed a 2nd HDD in my HTPC, XBMC can see the films and everything works.

Until I reboot.

Now if I start XBMC from the desktop it reports the films are missing from library when I try to play them.

I have to go to the XBMC desktop and open the HDD before XBMC can see the films.

Using the disk utility in Ubuntu I can see the 2nd HDD is set to auto mount.

Can I get XBMC to see the 2nd HDD without having to open it first?

add it to /etc/fstab

I wasn't sure I'd need to edit fstab with the setting on automatically mount but I'll give it a go.

'Disks' tell me it mounted at /media/user1/data

and it's ext4

with device ID /dev/sdb1

So I'll edit fstab with

/dev/sdb1 /media/user1/data ext4 defaults 0 2

how does that look?

Tried that line and it's working fine, thanks for your help

Make a dedicated mount point - don't use the /media/usr1 directory! That's used by user-based auto-mounting and could cause problems if you attempted to insert something like a USB drive. I have several drives and they're named (quite original, I assure you):

/media/tb1
/media/tb2
/media/tb3

(Yes, they are each 1TB drives...)

So perhaps I should just use..

/media/data

Data being the name of the drive.
