[HTPC] Already configured, does the job?
#1
Hello

I'm from Portugal, and I would like to know if this config does the job for:
- 1080p video with DTS-HD Master Audio, files .mkv ~30GB
- Streaming 1080p
- Spotify
- Torrents
- Media Server
- I intend fluidity
- Minimally silent

The config:
Case: Cooler Master 110 Elite
PSU: SEASONIC G-360 360W 80PLUS GOLD
MB: Asrock B85M-ITX
RAM: KINGSTON PC3-12800 1600MHZ 4GB HYPERX FURY BLUE CL10 DDR3
CPU: Intel Pentium G3420
CPU Cooler: Zalman CNPS8900 *it's necessary?
HD: WD GREEN 3TB
SSD: Crucial MX100 128GB
FAN 120: Noiseblocker M12-S2
FAN 80: Noiseblocker MF8-S1 *it's necessary?

I read about that the Intel video drivers have broken quantization range, should I change for one AMD A6-6400K?

Thanks

Case is not one of the quietest, drop the extra fans and go for a bit more noise isolated case from Coolermaster, fractal design or Lian Li instead. Isolating padding inside isn't really necessary for a quiet case, read reviews and look at pictures (more mesh = more sound). I would recommend this:

If you want to go really quiet then change cpu for something with even lower tdp, a t-series Intel maby? Like the 4130t that packs Intels most powerful igpu the stock cooler is also very good.

Thanks, maybe I will change the case Wink

About the cpu, is double the price! I want silence, maximum ~25-30dbA, you think that stock cooler of Intel Pentium G3420 it's too noisy?

Haven't heard it my self and pretty hard to guess from spec, if you don't need the extra futures the i3 offers then you're right the pentium has a better price and might be quiet enough. Worst case scenario you could just buy a schyte or noctura cooler for it later Smile

Sorry to rain on your parade but the 4130T does not pack Intels best iGP seeing as how their best is Iris Pro AKA the 5200 not the 4400 heck i5s and i7s come with the 4600 which is better then the 4400 in the 4130T for iris pro aka 5200 you are looking at a R CPU aka something like the i5 4570R.

Well you're sort-of right. I should have clarified the 4400 is the most powerful igpu for htpc use because; yes there are more powerful igpus from Intel but would you seriously consider buying a i5/i7 for the igpu a sane choice?
