Rockchip RK3288 SoC based Android media players and XBMC experience?
(2014-10-23, 14:42)Willem55 Wrote: yes it works using the rockchip playback engine... but like I said I'm focusing on the kodi 14 nightly builds..... your $49 VidOn box (with a somewhat outdated chip) runs with a hacked version of Frodo xbmc...
FYI Frodo was the xbmc version before the current Gotham that is soon to be replaced by KODI..
Come back when you're running Kodi and then compare...

If the HD Audio is working in FRODO and its not working in KODI..

What is your point?

You're a goddamn hero, thanks a lot for making this patch available!
I just installed it and it works great for S/PDIF audio pass-through, both DTS and Dolby Digital.
Still no dice on HDMI pass-through though, but at least I got an option for 5.1 sound again.

Only thing I would add is the need to reboot after copying the libmedia.so file if XBMC/Kodi have been open.

Thanks again!

EDIT: This was on the RikoMagic MK902II with the latest firmware available.

You need this special Kodi app and need to change the libmedia.so file on your RK3288, then it works.

Kodi Alpha 4 Pass through Patched

Libmedia.so
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B3xq_SN...edit?pli=1
Download and overwrite libmedia.so which is in /system/lib , You can use ES File Explorer and set settings to enable root access.

Other instructions
In android settings/sound/sound devices manager ensure it is set to HDMI Bitstream.
In xbmc set the audio output to 2.0 (setting to 5.1 causes lag on sd streams)
Enable passthrough checked.
Enable dolby digital transcoding is checked.
(Thanks to Karel for the Kodi app and Jakemate for the instructions on freaktab forum)

Here is the source code patches for anyone interested

Also remember to change hardware acceleration to Mediacodec only in Kodi, Expert Settings for smooth playback.
Cool, but why not contribute by submitting these as patches to upstream via GitHub pull requests?

I don't know about RK3288, since I have never used one. But I will say this, I bought a RK3188 SoC based Android device and it is able to do everything I want easily and smoothly.

I am running XBMC 12.3 on it and it runs very fast and is able to play 720p videos pretty decent, no lag, stuttering, etc.

I am able to play games from google play quite smoothly as well, I plugged in my rock candy xbox 360 controller and it was able to detect and use it easily. The controller's rumble feature works in some games as well.

And this was all done on the android stock rom that was installed on it when I got it. I can choose to install finless rom on it as well, so you can customize it too.

Overall I had a good experience with it, but you have to keep in mind I am not really picky about my videos. Most of my videos are 720p, but they are not true 720p and the audio I have downgraded to low quality to save space and it is always stereo (no 5.1, 7.1, etc.).

Because it's apparently too hacky: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid...pid1494265

Sorry, i was asking about which player you were referring

Many user posted review also Willem of Cm staff forum and it wasn't really good.

I read also a review of beelink/ubox and for me too many bad things

PS: Don't worry the local troll was already banned almost one week ago.
