Alternative CEC Remote Missing "Back" Solution?

I've got OpenELEC running on my Raspberry Pi. I have an LG television and remote, and was amazed to learn about CEC. Like a few people though, I find I have no "BACK" option on my remote.

By editing remote.xml I was able to map the remote's "stop" option to "BACK". I do though find that that button is rather small...

I'm new to XBMC, but it seems also that controls can be defined relative to the current window - and I'm curious about the pop-up pane at the left of many screens. It always seems to be there when I might want to use "BACK". By default, pressing "left" when this panel is active seems to do nothing. When this panel is active, could I then either map "left" to "BACK"; or perhaps to "HOME"? (Does this screen/panel have a Window ID?)
