playing ROMs on XBMC

I have a chromebox running OpenELEC/chromeOS. I would like to use RetroPlayer and Rom Collection Browser to play some ROMs, but how do I map the USB controllers I have? Or would wired Xbox 360 controllers work better?

Thanks! perhaps i'm a little bit ahead of myself. I can figure out how to even get the roms and emulators loaded

i play old roms on my OE/xbmc ... the setup was a pain in the ass ... but now it runs on the Generic Build from OE

i can play every rom up to N-64 without any problems with my PS3 controller
