Solved Match refresh rate to current video
#1
Maybe this can be done with a plugin. Maybe it is too hard to do and thats why it hasn't been done. Or maybe I can do it but dont know how. Anyways, I set video playback to always be the same refresh rate as the source video. It could be 23,24,59, or 60 Hz. I set my video settings in XBMC to be 60 Hz. I start up xbmc, and my TV is at 60 Hz. I change to a movie or a tv station that broadcasts in 1080i, and the screen flickers for few seconds while the refresh rate adjusts and my receiver and tv correct for to the new signal. I dont have a problem with that. But now that I am playing a video, if I hit the guide, or pop up the weather, main menu, or favorites, The screen flickers again, adjusts to 60 Hz (the menu setting) and then the video plays in the background adjusted to 60hz. Why not have the xbmc menus adjust instead, and then you dont need to reset the resolution. During playback i could care less what the gui refresh rate is. I try to use the source refresh rate as much as possible, and 24 Hz looks great on my tv. plus I dont pay a 3+ second penalty for trying to use all the features that make xbmc amazing. (3+ seconds is a lot when watching something).

Go again to the video setting menu and change the adjust refresh rate settting from "always" to "start/stop".

Ha. Awesome. I had a feeling there was probably a way. For some reason I always thought that setting didn't force the video to update the refresh rate. Thanks.
