Benchmarking ext graphic card vs built-in graphics
#1
I have a Geforce GTX 560 Ti in my closet for quite some time since I stopped playing 3D games. Nowadays I spend all my free time watching bluray rips on XBMC. I am planning to set up a brand new HTPC soon. Now with most CPUs having ample graphics power to playback bluray rips, how do I compare a new system with built in graphics or adding in my old Geforce GTX 560 Ti ? Is there a way to analyse?

The only real benefits to external video cards vs on-board are in the areas of scaling and de-interlacing I think. Pretty much everything (either separate GPU or integrated) current will decode H264 and MPEG2 (and in most, but not all, cases VC-1) at 1080p and 720p. Now that Intel hardware de-interlacing using Motion Compensative and Motion Adaptive are becoming possible under Linux, then even the de-interlacing issues are less clear-cut. (Good nVidia cards will do a Temporal/Spatial 2x deinterlace)
