Some AVI (MPEG-4) files not playing. Cannot configure external player
#1
Hi,
I have a problem playing some AVI files in XBMC Gotham 13.1 using a Minix Neo X8-H. When I try to play these files it says "Playback Failed" "One or more of the items failed to play. Check the log for details."

These file are AVI format using MPEG-4 Codecs. All of the files I have trouble with will play using using VLC or MX-Player and even on my basic LCD TV. So I decided to try and configure an external player by creating a playercorefactory.xml file as per the wiki page. No matter what player I selected for the XML file I couldn't get the external player to play in XBMC.

Has anyone had a similar problem and how did they solve it?
Thanks in advance,
Poco

I tried updating to XBMC 13.3 as well as SPMC 13.3.2 and both have the same issue. Has anyone managed to get an external player working? If so can you upload your xml file?
TIA,
Poco

There is no xbmc 13.3, so heaven knows what you are running. http://xbmc.org/download/

Also you supply no debug log (wiki)

http://www.minixforum.com/threads/xbmc-f...-13-3.139/ Maybe it is just a MINIX version of XBMC named 13.3 . I thought it was worth a try.

I didn't see you asking for the logs until now. Here they are http://xbmclogs.com/show.php?id=296483ht...?id=296483 I don't see any reference to the file I am trying to play so I am not sure if it is logging correctly.

Just an update. Today when browsing files outside of xbmc to play the troublsome avi files, I get the option to select my player. One of the options is xbmc for Minix, which I didn't have before, it must be from one of the updates I installed. If I choose this the file will play, but once I go back into xbmc it won't play.

If you choose to get your software from minix, why do you seek support here?

Maybe I didn't make myself clear. I only upgraded to the Minix version the other day just to see if it would fix the issue. I wouldn't expect help from the forum if I hadn't tried to fix the issue myself first. I have this issue with all versions I have tried, from xbmc, Minix to spmc.I'm on Gotham 13.2 again
