Proper way to work with multiple languages in videos

Hi all,
while setting up XBMC on my HTPC, I started to wonder what is the proper way to work with multiple languages. I think there must be many people out there that have movie files in different languages and there might be a way it is supposed to be done.

To quickly summarize, in which ways multiple languages can occur:
  • movies with multiple audio tracks in one container
  • different files for one movie, each in one language

Here is a list of things I would expect from a system that allows multiple languages:
  • show available language tracks/versions in the database (for example as it is realized by the Video Language Script http://addons.xbmc.org/show/script.videolanguage/ - I couldn't test it yet though)
  • be able to filter for movies in one language (for example if you are watching movies with you Spanish learning group it might be cool to only show movies with a Spanish audio track)
  • show metadata according to the language of the movie - right now you can only choose one language per folder which does not work so well for single files with multiple tracks (see here http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=...id=1767852) - metadata could for example be shown in the language of the movie, or if there are multiple versions in a default language

Is anybody aware of a method to handle those multiple language files or multiple movie versions in a good way? I would be happy for any hint.

A similar thing would be interesting for subtitles as well.

Best, Erik
