Gotham 13.2 Sound: No DTS, No Dolby - Why?
#1
Hi,
first I would like to excuse for my english. It is not my mother language (I am from Germany).

I recently updated from Frodo 12.3 to Gotham 13.2. Plattform is a windows 7 with a Creative Soundblaster soundcard.

I am working with SPDIF passthrough for DTS and Dolby. Using Frodo everything was fine - the passthrough worked, my receiver got the signal and encoded it.
After updating to Gotham I had no surround sound at all - although passthrough was activated.
I found a similar issue in this forum regarding the Fire TV: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid...9&page=210
I now have the settings as they are described there: only two channels, Dolby and DTS passthrough and Dolby Digital Transcoding enabled.
With these settings I have surround sound, but it is not really good - it is not DTS and not Dolby (at least my Yamaha Receiver shows that). If I remove the radio button "Dolby Digital Transcoding" I have no surround sound - no Dolby and no DTS.

I do not quite understand why it worked with Frodo and does no longer work with Gotham - so what am I doing wrong?

I would really appreciate your help.
Thank you!

The audio settings were redone for Gotham, so it should just a matter of finding the right settings for your hardware. Can you please post screenshots of your audio settings please, to do this copy to a host such as http://imgur.com and provide the link here.

Thanks for your help.
I tested a bit and figured out that it is not necessary for me to set the speaker settings to "2.0". It all depends on the radio button "Enable dolby digital transcoding". If this button is unchecked I have no surround sound. I tried all other settings (sampling rate etc) - they seem to have no effect.

Try changing the SPDIF device selections to the WASAPI option

In such cases, please Debug Log first
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

Changing to WASAPI only results in strange scratching noises when I start a movie with DTS or Dolby.
I will create a debug log and upload it.

I just uploaded a debug log:

First I played Maleficent with the settings like I had them in Frodo (Passthrough for Dolby and DTS, no dolby transcoding) - so no surround sound.
Then I entered the menu for audio, switched the radio button for dolby transcoding and played Maleficent again - this time I get surround sound.

I appreciate your help! Thanks!
