Another available Rockchip RK3288 SoC based device that also features Linux support is Firefly RK3288 Development Board

Unfortunately the SoC manufacturer which is Rockchip have already stated that they currently have no plans for releasing Linux drivers/libraries for the VPU, neither as closed binary blob or as open source. So workaround for now would be use Libhybris with Android drivers/libraries on Linux for hardware video acceleration. And while reverse engineering might be an long-term option it have not been proven usable for end-users in the past for these types of SoC, so better would probably be to pressure Rockchip into releasing VPU drivers/libraries for Linux.

thanks for the news

could be a best buy with open elec BUT with no rockchip linux driver is useful like a brick

Hopefully this will be the last Rockchip discussion thread... there really doesn't need to be one for every new board, particularly when you can't even run Kodi on them.

As you could have read shomari has been testing kodi 14 nightly builds on android successfully even with HEVC just no HW decoding.
Linux Ubuntu support from Rockchip will depend on demand from the community, but don't forget this SoC is just out and will be shipped in netbooks also..

Guess it will be trending topic for a while...sorry.

You can't run Kodi on the board in this thread. You may at some point in the future, but does such a board really deserve it's own thread when there is already at least two other threads discussing this SoC? It just seems rather pointless having dedicated threads for every board particularly when the Linux variants don't even support Kodi (and may never, unless drivers are released).

I guess I'm saying I hope this trend doesn't continue. A generic "Linux on Rockchip RK3288" thread would have been a more appropriate title, then mention each board as they appear, along with progress towards working drivers etc.

True.. a "Linux on Rockchip RK3288" thread would be more appropriate I'm sure it will emerge once more manufactures hit the market with a Linux box.
My focus is on android and kodi 14

Hi everyone, i'm newer on this forum.
This Rikomagic MK902II Linux Edition is a very powerfull box, but on the official reseller site, in the page relative to this product, there is a paragraph that i don't understand: "please note this is ongoing development, HDMI sound in Kodi is currently is not working correctly however USB sound cards work fine" ...
Now i'm wondering, "HDMI sound in Kodi is currently is not working", refers to the high quality sound (not working) in kodi, or to the fact that using an hdmi cable i have no sound on my hd tv ?
