Cannot change recorded TV Directory?
#1
Hi in serverWMC when I am asked to set up my recorded TV directory (Windows 8.1 pro) I am presented with only one default option, which is: \\MYHTPC\Users\Public\Recorded TV\. I would like to change this directory to a recor4ding directory on an external 2TB USB 3 drive. However whenever I attempt to change the directory, serverWMC complains that xyz directory 'does not appear to point to your local recorded TV directory. Do you wish to proceed?' I am almost certain I have formatted the location of my recorded TV directory on my external drive appropriately.

My recorded TV directory is located at:

D:\Recorded TV

I have shared this folder with 'Everybody' and set the permissions to read/write.

I have set the network location in ServerWMC to \\MYHTPC\Recorded TV

I should perhaps make it clear that this is a directory I created myself and it contains no additional sub-folders.

If I go with the default option and follow the instructions to ensure that the folder is shared with 'everybody' it actually appears not to be possible in Windows 8.1 to share 'public' folders with everybody. You can do it through advanced sharing, but if subsequently I try to add this folder to SeverWMC and hit 'save' I still get an error saying that 'this folder does not appear to be shared by everybody', do I wish to proceed?

It seems to be an impossible set of conditions to overcome.

Have you setup WMC to use this D drive folder as your recorded tv folder? If not, you need to do that first.

I have some more weirdness. If I go to 'settings' in WMC, 'recorder' and then try to set the recorder directory, it can't see my external USB drive. recorder directory it can see my d drive, but it won't let me choose a specific folder or directory. Is this normal?

Maybe, I can't remember. If you are comfortable with regedit, you can set the directory and drive directly:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Service\Recording

Then set the field for RecordPath, to D:\Recorded TV

Thanks for trying to help m8, it's really appreciated. But is that the normal way to do this? It seems a bit convoluted?

Its a way to do it, whether its the normal way I couldn't say. This is how I change the recording drive, its much faster than going through all the menus in wmc.

Right well I did that (regedit) and it seemed to go smoothly, But is the network path set automatically when I change to when I change to D:\Recorded TV. It's hard to tell what''s going on as both the recorded TV folder on my D: drive and the recorded TV folder on my C:\Users\Public\Recorded TV are just called 'recorded TV'. I guess I can try changing it and see what happens.

OK I just tried to save that and I got another error saying 'this folder doesn't contain any.wtv files, are you sure it's the one you want?

They don't make the set up for ServerWMC particularly intuitive it seems.

'They' is scarecrow and me - and you know, we try. That's not really an error, it is just saying that the folder you chose doesn't have any wtv files in it and normally a recorded TV folder would - so its a warning that you may have chosen the wrong path.

After you change the recTV folder in wmc, serverwmc needs you to enter the network share path to this new folder - which I think is what you were trying to do at the start.

Yeah, that's all been done. Thanks dude you're a star!

Now I just have some weirdness with MediaBrowser 3 to figure out. All of my UPNP devices can see it, but none of them can play any live tv streams from it. I installed the WMCServer plugin for this too.

But if you are stumped, maybe I should ask elsewhere about this?

I really do appreciate your help though.

I don't know what you are talking about here, please provide more detail about what you are doing. Probably its better to do this on the MBS forum though, I am active there also:
