Req Adopt Core CC Parser Video filter in XBMC to enable WMC Closed Captions?
#1
Hey All,

My wife is deaf, so captions is a pretty big priority for our house. While we can use Windows Media Center fine with captions, I really like XBMC's extended functionality. However, XBMC does not currently have a way (that I know of) to display captions.

Doing some digging, I found that MediaPortal does allow live TV CC via a video/directshow filter, which appears to be a variant of Core CC Parser (http://sourceforge.net/projects/cccp/) to remux the captions into the live TV stream. Their info and filter is here: http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/1_MEDIA...AM_streams.

I know that XBMC primarily uses ffmpeg for it's live video and encoding, but I didn't know if there was a way to use this existing filter's work (or look into how it does it) to enable Live TV Captions?

Any and all information is greatly appreciated, or if there's anything I can do to assist, let me know.

I have been looking into solving this problem too. You can check out this thread in the pvr development forum that I started a few days ago, to see what I have been doing:

And look at the ticket that started from it. This thread is about live-TV streams, and I can't tell from your post whether you need cc enabled for recordings or live-TV streams or both. If you mostly need it for recordings, I think its best to generate srt files for each recording. I have been playing with making these srt files with swmc, but if you don't mind a more complicated setup you can get this functionality now using a free program called ccextractor. You can use swmc's external action trigger to run cc extractor each time a recording ends.
Windows Media Center PVR addon (pvr.wmc) and server backend (ServerWMC)

Thanks for the response.

I'm definitely looking at it for both, but have found the existing workarounds for recordings. It's Live TV That is currently the issue.
