Can 2 XBMCs sync with each other?
#1
Hi,

I have two XBMCs running at home, one in the livingroom and one in the bedroom. Is there any way to make it so that if I watch a movie on the living room XBMC the "viewed-box" gets ticked on the bedroom XBMC as well?

That is definitely possible, though the setup is a little taxing. You will basically need to setup one of your two machines as a host for your XBMC server. Follow the directions in the link below.

A couple other options as well if you just want watched status to be synced: syncing and sharing (wiki).

I use a Synology to store my files and to use as a centralised DB.

Before doing this, I used to use 'trakt.tv' for ticking the viewed box.

It's a plugin for Kodi(xbmc)

I'm also using a Synology NAS as a file server, how did you solve the problem?

You can set up a MySQL database between your machines. One machine hosts the database. You then add the library and alter advancedsettings.xml. When you add the right advancedsettings.xml for subsequent machines it will then share that library. Means that you can pause and resume on a different machine and have shared watched statuses.

This says that's not a very good idea. (Atleast for my Synology NAS)

Post #10 in that thread points out a solution though, plus that thread is like a year old, and stuff moves on Smile

I used this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3PmmDtK65ks to setup my sql database and it was really easy. Also it works like a charm.Watched status, Pause and Start is no working multiple xbmc clients (Mac, OpenElec and Windows).

My XBMC database is set up in MySQL running on Synology NAS. I use it to sync multiple instances of XBMC and have had it running this way for over a year.

I have had no speed/freezing issues likes the ones mentioned in that link. Maybe i'm just lucky! Smile

The only thing that annoys me with my setup is that only the (master) device that I update the library on gets all my artwork etc for movies. The other devices get updated with the new movies but without any artwork so i have to go into each one individually and 'refresh' the movie. All my artwork is scraped by ember media manager and placed into the movie folders. Anyone know why the 'slave' devices dont pick up the artwork when the library is updated on the master device?
Devices
- NAS: Synology DS212, 6TB, MySQL
- HTPC: Intel NUC N2830, 2.4ghz, 4GB RAM, SSD, Win 7 & OpenElec (dual boot) / Kodi 15.2
- PC: Lenovo M92P, 3.2ghz, 12GB RAM, Win 10 / Kodi 17.4
- Laptop: Acer 5750G, 2.9ghz, 8GB RAM, SSD, Windows 10 / Kodi 15.2

I have found that running 'artwork downloader' using just local sources (this is important !) makes all the art appear on all my clients. YMMV

Interesting - I will look into that!

I am running MySQL on my synology NAS for two years now and am quite happy about it. Had some performance problems in the beginning, mainly with the music library because of the vast number of items. Most dissappeared with a single tweak: converting the databases to InnoDB. If you set InnoDB as the default database-engine (on the synology) before connecting XBMC it should automatically create the databases with that engine. It might be default in newer versions of MySQL already.
I think all righthtinking people in this country are sick and tired of being told that ordinary, decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired.
