Every .strm file created fails to play.

Hi guys, I come to you after hours of reading forum pages and creating test files. No matter what I do I cannot get a .strm file to play. I must have tried a hundred different sources of content. None of them open. The result is always "Cannot find a next item to play". This Nasa m3u8 stream is a good example,
Code:
http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/NTV-Public-IPS.m3u8

It plays perfectly in VLC but when I stick it in a notepad file, change it to "All Files" and save it as .strm, I get the same error every time. This happens also with rtmp as well as http sources.

Please, please, please don't just refer to another post. Believe me, I've looked at them all. Your time is greatly appreciated

I can't get the logfile to open (seems to be a problem with xbmclogs at the moment) so I can't really see the problem but I can tell you that I've had the same problem in the past. The url you give does play correctly.

Everytime I've had a problem there's always a unicode or non-displayable character in the string and it does play in VLC but not XBMC. Are you using wordpad or notepad? Wordpad saves hidden characters for font changes from a cut and paste, notepad warns you that it's converting or dropping the unicode character when you save unless you have encoding set to Unicode. Use notepad, do a "Save as" and make sure that you're using ANSI encoding . Should be ok after that.

You are a hero! I had read elsewhere that the best encoding method was UTF-8. Your recommendation to save the strm file in ANSI was the answer. Oh how I regret not asking here in the first place. I won't make that mistake again. I'm very grateful for your knowledge and quick reply.

How do I +1 your reputation? You deserve it.
