Linux External USB Raid vs two external hard drives and rsync.
#1
Hi all,

I have a ever increasing collection of stuff on a 2tb NAS which is likely to be full soon even though I keep pruning files I don't need.
So I was thinking of getting another NAS, then I realised I don't really need a nas as most of my computing is done on 1 of my pcs and any usage from the other 3 is purely occasional.

So then I was thinking of external USB RAID Array, as I'm getting more paranoid about data loss, though really important stuff such as family photos and videos are also backed up to 1tb dropbox account.

It occurred to me however, that if the RAID device fails then it could be a pain to get at the data.
So would I be best just getting two 3tb external drives and using rsync or similar to copy the files from one to the other?
Then if one failed then it would not be much of a problem as other one would be working.

Any thoughts?
What does everyone else do?
