Freeze and Live TV Channel Not Loading
#1
So, I was having major problems, today. I was watching Live TV, channel 8.1, when everything froze. I ssh'd into Raspbmc, to stop XBMC, and reboot. According to the ssh response, that happened. However, the picture still stayed on the frozen picture. Unfortunately, I had to pull the RPi plug, so it would power off. So, I don't have a log to show that, but would appreciate advice how to handle that in the future (should it ever happen again)!

Then, I restarted SWMC (on my laptop) and XBMC (on the RPi), and tried to watch Live TV channel 8.1. It wouldn't work. I selected channel 10.1, instead, which worked fine. Again, I tried to select 8.1, but it wouldn't work. This has happened a few times, so I really would like to know what is causing the problem. By the way, I had no problem viewing channel 8.1 directly in WMC.

I would appreciate any advice on why these problems are happening, and what to do to prevent in the future.

Thanks, in advance!

It looks like the data is just coming very slow. Try increasing the amount of time swmc waits for the live stream to start. Change to this in the config.xml file:

<Timeout_WaitForTS_MS>20000</Timeout_WaitForTS_MS>
Windows Media Center PVR addon (pvr.wmc) and server backend (ServerWMC)

I've made the revision. So far, so good. Will let you know if it happens, again.

Thanks so much!

I am still getting intermittent freezing issues. This morning, when I turned on the TV (connected to the RPi), I went in to check Weather, then exited that and selected a channel on Live TV. The program started for 1 second, then XBMC froze. This happens often, when first turning on the TV for the day, or after a long break.

Would it have anything to do with my laptop (with SWMC) having been put to sleep with inactivity, then when waken XBMC doesn't recognize that it is there again? If so, is there any way to correct it, short of using PuTTY to go into the RPi to stop/start XBMC, and stop/start SWMC on my laptop (which is the only way I've been able to correct it thus far)?

This morning, the error occurred around 8:16. I was unable to post my entire XBMC log, since it is too large for pastebin, but if you need the rest of it, please let me know and I will piece meal it into several files.

Thanks so much for any assistance you can provide.

At 8:16 there was some kind of communication error, not sure what it is due to, but I think it means the client (in this case your pi) broke the connection. Is this a wireless connection between the server and client? As for sleep, Swmc is set by default to keep the server machine out of sleep mode so long as there is a client machine online.

Thank you for your response...

No, the RPi is connected via ethernet. However, I was made aware of the fact that I was using an old build today. I have now upgraded to the current Gotham 13.2 version. I will give it a try and see if that makes the difference in the intermittent freeze issue. (Unfortunately, it didn't improve the speed of loading anything on the RPi, but that's another issue!)
