Click on the xbmc/kodi icon in the start menu and is starts to a black screen then back to desktop. I've also run this from the command line too. (read bottom of post)

I was thinking it might be graphic card.

Any ideas what this could be? Thanks

You have the nouveau driver, dont use it it cant take it, use the system provided nvidia proprietary blob. (few threads on that around forums lately. Im not going to try and find these thread for you though, sorry.
