Android Test builds for HEVC / H.265 support on AMLogic and StageFright/MediaCodec?
#76
Frankly, I guess I need to track down some spec sheets for these SOCs, what I'm reading online is obviously not telling the whole story... (big surprise scuttlebutt is not accurate.) There seems to be some discrepancy between popdroidtv reporting:

"Been playing with HEVC - it seems to play the 720p stuff relatively well using hw decoding (am-h265) fps stable between 22-24.6 -- however, not quite perfect overall. Cpu0 ~10/20%, cpu2 100% (why not 4 CPUs?)"

vs. your suggesting/stating it will not hardware decode MAIN10 even at only 720P...

But, I thank you both for the input. I guess we've a way to go yet before H.265 becomes overly important anyhow.

Hi may i confirm as of today:

Amlogic S805

Up to 1080p HEVC 8 bit with SPMC is fine

Amlogic S812

Up to 4K HEVC 8 bit with SPMC is fine, neither would do HEVC 10 bit?

Correct, you need the new 64bit successors to the S805/S812 for HEVC 10bit support, those being the AMlogic S905/S912:
