There is a mini iso which pretty much gives a command line. From there install xfce-desktop out whatever -desktop you like.

Yea I considered that, though theres no UEFI support. Perhaps I can add the EFI-bootloader post-install... Either way, it's not really worth all the hassle. I may very well just go with Xubuntu again as I've enjoyed using that in the past. Btw, considering the lack of changes in 14.10... would it be just as well to use 14.04 since it's an LTS and will most likely receive backports and kernel updates?

I tend to stick with LTS releases.

Yea, I think I'll be doing the same. The last Ubuntu is great, see no reason to change as long as Kodi will support LTS through its life cycle.

So I first installed Ubuntu after having tried Debian with Gnome 3.14 (which wasn't halfbad, no proper XBMC tho :-( ). After I realized how frustrating Unity STILL is, I have gone back to Linux Mint. What a refreshing, albeit green, distro it still is :-)

Which desktop are you using? I have downloaded cinnamon and xfce. Haven't decided yet.

Glad you asked! I've set up Cinnamon and liking it so far. Mixed and matched themes, see screenshot.

Your preferences will probably be entirely different though Smile

Also used a little tool called Theme Configuration to save me the hassle of manually changing colors via dconf-editor for highlighting since I don't like all the green. (see the blue highlighted text. http://www.webupd8.org/2012/09/customize...using.html

Maybe you were thinking about something other than the appearance of Cinnamon?

Edit: These are all installed via PPA's, so no need to worry about unzipping them if you want to try any out.
