Setting up NAT for XBMC, and looking to a buy a XBMC box

I'm looking to connect my USB 3.0 External HDD to a router and have it accessible to any xbmc devices on my network. Can anyone recommend what kind of router I could use for this (the cheaper the better), and also what box you recommend for installing XBMC on (Amazon Fire, Raspberry Pi, etc). I am looking to stream 1080 video, and also use PseudoTv (if possible).

I am also open to possibly using custom router firmware.
Can anyone offer any advice on this?
