Which hard drive to buy?
#1
hi
i'm planning on making my first server and was wondering which hard drive to buy
like WD has green, red, etc. (I personally don't like seagate)

my server will be strictly for media files
and i don't want the server(hard drive) to be on all the time
i can't decide between green or red

WD-reds offer 3 yr warranty, designed for always on, and doesn't error out quickly (so your NAS doesn't start rebuilding on the first gliche not ready). The WD-red-pro has 5 yr warranty and 7200rpm but are pricier.

Many experienced users are happy with WD greens using unraid software, As budget permits, I'm slowly moving over to reds.

If you can get the Hitachi 5K4000 models, I'd go for these. I like them a lot (using 4 of them myself) and they're rated for 24/7 uptime (despite being consumer disks). 3 year warranty as well.
