External text-based subtitles (SRT) on DVD-Video?

Question
Hello Guys,

why it's not possible to to run extern subtitles (SRT Files) on DVD's? I mean, of course every DVD has its own subtitles, but I've got some special cases, where i need to bind the extern ones. Is it somehow possible? Or is it hard to programm?
I hope you can help....

Thanks anyway

It's currently not supported if you use the dvdplayer. If you play it using mplayer, it may work - give it a go (white->play using...)

No

But it's an original DVD. There are VOB Files..., so even if i can play the files with MPlayer it would not work because the Film is splitted to 5 VOB Files.
