That was to be expected. Would you be so kind to give me another pulseaudio -vvv log with kodi and this second patch?
Please apply this patch ontop of the last on, so we got more logging:
Thanks much.
Sorry - I had a typo ... will add a new one.

We:
16:04:18 T:140093543962368 NOTICE: Requesting values frag_size: 70560, minreq: 17640, tlength: 70560
PulseAudio Server:
I: [pulseaudio] protocol-native.c: Requested tlength=0.04 ms, minreq=0.02 ms
which means:
16:04:18 T:140093543962368 NOTICE: Received values frag_size: 0, minreq: 8, tlength: 192
^^
btw. could you also get me a pactl list sink-inputs while kodi is running? That gets very odd.

Also interesting for me - what happens, if you select the HDMI out? or the other output - e.g. not the Analog 5.1 out in kodi's audio settings? Same issue - it should be enough to change the default device on the desktop.

Yeah, that's clear for kodi - as we cannot open it. Btw. I really mean "pactl" :-) it's part of pulseaudio-utils
Could you please do the tests with changing a) your default device, away from this 5.1 ALSA and b) check with the other devices you have attached directly, by changing kodi's audio device?)

There is no package pulseaudio-utils here. Is there any real difference between pactl and pcmd? If so, I have to get the PKGBUILD from Arch and compile it.
Regarding your other question: HDMI out is not connected to anything, my screens are connected via DVI. But I tested with my headset which doesn't behave any different than the default 5.1 output.
EDIT:
Arch also doesn't have pulseaudio-utils. I guess everything is included in pulseaudio and pulseaudio-alsa.

Oki. No there is no difference for the usecase we wanted. So, basically we are stuck here. PA server returns idiotic values :-( and I have no idea, why.
Btw. last thing: Can you give me the output of pulseaudio -vvv when you start wine or any other application, please?
