MythTV front-end client built-into to XBMC
Ding, have you tried using mythbuntu without the capitalization. I think the hostname is case sensitive, so you want to make sure you have the case right.

Yeah it is without caps and that is how I have been using it. When I look at the console logs it even tells me which file it is accessing. Something like...
Quote:19:43:02 T:4038774784 M:140963840 DEBUG: SetupLiveTV - recorder isn't running, let's start it
19:43:04 T:4039307264 M:140939264 DEBUG: Process - MythTV event RECORDING_LIST_CHANGE

19:43:04 T:4038774784 M:140955648 NOTICE: Creating Demuxer
But then it says something like it is processing the file with a bunch of numbers and then it just hangs. Something like...
Quote:19:43:04 T:4038774784 M:140906496 DEBUG: Seek - seek to pos 0, whence 16
19:43:04 T:4038774784 M:140886016 DEBUG: Seek - seek to pos 0, whence 0

19:43:04 T:4038774784 M:140881920 DEBUG: Seek - seek to pos 198455, whence 0
19:43:04 T:4038774784 M:140881920 DEBUG: Seek - seek to pos 3431542, whence 0
19:43:04 T:4038774784 M:140881920 DEBUG: Seek - seek to pos 16226317, whence 0
19:43:04 T:4038774784 M:140881920 DEBUG: Seek - seek to pos 7034600, whence 0
19:43:04 T:4038774784 M:140881920 DEBUG: Seek - seek to pos 8505530, whence 0
19:43:04 T:4038774784 M:140881920 DEBUG: Seek - seek to pos 8622908, whence 0
And it keeps going for a bit til it just stops. It looks as though it finds the file and tries to read it but then it cant parse it or something. Of note, if I mount the drive on my desktop and play the nuv file directly in xbmc they play fine. I am a bit confused. I know it has to be something really simple, it always is.

It seems that rtelford was having similar problems and elupus ways saying about a bug in ffmpeg and the streaming myth protocol.
http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=2297&page=40

Hey rtelford what ever happened with that, did you get it solved?

it contains 1 file that will play ok
myth://mythtv:********@192.168.1.1/recordings/4007_20080422143000.mpg

and one that crashes.
myth://mythtv:********@192.168.1.1/recordings/1022_20080422183500.mpg

I mounted my recordings directory via smb and have been able to play everything fine. Seems the problem is when the file is being streamed via myth protocols.

R.

Thanks

ok, that isolates it a bit, work in linux but not in ppc-osx. got to be some endian issue with libcmyth.

I'm having problems that are very similar to yours. I have tried plex and xbmc booth on my intel macbook. So I don't think it is a ppc issue.

I can use the MythTv frontend without a problem, but xbmc will only show me channels, guide and recording. When starting the playback of a recording or a live channel it freezes completely.

If I add the recordings directory as a samba share, I can play the recordings fine from that directory. Very odd..

yours is a different problem. add your mythtvbackend to /etc/hosts.

It does not appear to help, it was among the first things i tried, but maybe I have done it incorrect?

This is what my hosts file looks like now:

Code:
##
# Host Database
#
# localhost is used to configure the loopback interface
# when the system is booting.  Do not change this entry.
##
127.0.0.1       localhost
255.255.255.255 broadcasthost
::1             localhost
fe80::1%lo0     localhost
192.168.0.196   mythtv

Don't know what all the other entries for locahost does, but I just added the one at the bottom.

I also made dure that the server is configured as 192.168.0.196 in the mythtv-setup on the backend. Booth master and local server is set to 192.168.0.196.

I have tried connecting xbmx with booth ip and mythtv name above, they booth give the same result.

Question
hi, it's been a while since i looked into mythtv based features in xbmc. does anyone know whether there has been any updates to:

- being able to skip commericials in xbmc of mythtv recorded and flagged programs
- the ability to get say a EPG of shows through xbmc
- more advanced features like the ability to schedule recordings etc.

thanks!

Yee.

I'm currently plugging in skipping commercial break support. http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?p=318925

I just created a new thread to get some feedback for how to implement well in XBMC (linked off the thread above).

For scheduling etc. we need to wait until the work alcoheca is doing in the pvr-unified branch makes it's way into linuxport (and others).

I believe the wiki is up-to-date in terms of features / functionality. http://wiki.xbmc.org/?title=MythTV

Might pay to have a read of the wiki page. http://wiki.xbmc.org/?title=MythTV

XBMC has native support for MythTV using the myth:// source. You don't need to use any Python scripts but you do need to enter the URL manually as no skins support adding it as a specific type of Source. Screenshots in the wiki page are using the MediaStream skin.

I'm currently trying to plug-in commercial skip support for myth:// at the moment.
