Macromedia Flash (SWF) and Adobe Flash Video (FLV)
#46
I've allready mentioned this in a different tread, i think this is a really good feature to have.

Gnash is an open source flash video player, it's not as advanced as the official flash video player, but it supports most (if not all) games and s also able to play video from sites like youtube.

Having flash support would hopefully also mean new options for XBMC skins, but i'm not sure if it'll take to much resources for that or not.

Having the ability to view youtube videos, and let people play flash games would really be a great addition to XBMC i think.

Looks promising, problem is finding a skilled enough developer with time and interest to make it work as a player for XBMC

I'm sure getting a developer interested wont be that difficult, just look at what kind of options it would add to xbmc Smile
getting one that's skilled enough is more difficult, i'm sure porting this to xbox will be quite the challenge.

Lets just hope that someone is willing to pick this up, and do pretty much all XBMC users a Big favor Laugh

Hi there,

I host a weather station with the information LIVE on the internet.

It is displayed using a program called "Weather Display Live".

Live weather, Southern England

Is there any way i can get to see this on my TV through the xbox??
That would be great, either through the browser or a script of some kind?

Many thanks

Stuart

ysbox Wrote:I took a look at gnash a while ago, and imho it has too heavy dependencies like glib, boost, libmad, not mentioning cairo/gtk... (and so on, http://www.gnu.org/software/gnash/manual...codedepend), the least thing XBMC needs is more library ports to xbox for a "niche" functionality.
doh!

What are the chances that xbmc would get a flash player so that we could play flash games such as tower defense and so on or would it need to be done in python??

I would say the chances of that are about 0. Maybe on the linux version in the future, but that would be a ways off I'm sure, sometime after they're finished adding all the basic stuff. There's a flash player for the xbox right now (not part of XBMC) and to be honest its aweful. No sounds, video's choppy. From what I understand, its no easy task to (legally) add support for flash.

could you link to information (or download link) to this xbox flash player?
I couldn't find it anywhere.

Thanks.

It is part of LinksBoks (the webbrowser for Xbox) which is open source:
http://www.xbox-scene.com/software/softw...diaplayers
Quote:swfx and swfxplayer

This is a decoding library for Macromedia Flash™ animations, compiled for use with homebrew applications compiled with the XDK.

Due to the number of requests for Flash support in LinksBoks, I've decided to experiment a bit on this library and here's the result.

Current Status:: v0.1
no download (built with XDK)
Official Website: http://ysbox.online.fr/
I believe this flash-player is a port of gameswf (an open source library), see:

Looks like that port has actually been committed upstream to gameswf CVS on tulrich.com

So you could try building the library from there if you have the XDK and a Visual Studio .NET 2003 enviroment

They do have a good open source flash player.

Just go here for people to see:

Why not make this a subset of the browser integration? Does XBMC need another player? FLV BTW works right now. SWF can also be converted- and if there is no interface/interaction- it works well.
