ffmpeg / mplayer can decode flv (flash video), so would this be an easy addition to xbmc? i know very little about the backend, though obviously i'm familiar with xbmc development (cpblobs, woo!Wink

note that afaik this has nothing to do with swf, so i don't think the two topics should be lumped together.

fyi; ffmpeg contains a new utility (in its cvs) called "cws2fws" that convert compressed flash-files to uncompressed ones,  which can be than played back with ffmpeg. maybe it could be ported to mplayer (or into a library/dll for xbmc?)?

i want to know if its possible to play flv files on xbmc and if not, how much work will it take to create some sort of codec for flv playback?

there are many tools for converting flv to avi and vice-versa. there are also many players that can play .flv files.

let me know if anybody wants to explore these possibilities??

given that ffmpeg supports it, it should already be possible.. (depends a little on when it was added to ffmpeg). mplayer uses ffmpeg to play the codec, i suppose it might have some problems demuxing it thou.
