Is here a way search a list (like Movies) alphabetically by just pressing the fist letter of the title (such as "T" to find those that start with a "T")?

Sure hold the shift key down at the same time.... and if you're really fast you can do a To to take you to the 'T' and then into the 'To' and I've even managed three letters on occasion.

Shift + Letter will jump to the letter.

So how would that work with a remote? Or will it?

With a remote control you should be able to press numbers on the keypad and jump to a letter SMS-style.
