[Windows 10] Freezes on mp4 files
#1
Just upgraded to Windows 10. Was using xbmc 13.2. It kept freezing when starting a video, I did not notice what file type.
I updated to Kodi 15.0 and find it also freezes on mp4 files.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

I get voice only, and the system freezes.
If you have an AMD graphics card, this was answered in another thread.
deselect hardware acceleration in advance settings in Kodi.

I would hope this a temporary fix. Something must be wrong with the AMD drivers.

I do AMD Radeon HD 7310.
Funny how it seems to only affect mp4 files.

The correct answer is;
Uncheck "Allow hardware acceleration - DXVA2 in Settings - video - Acceleration - under Advanced settings mode.

I even tried the AMD beta drivers Sad no help

Someone suggested v14 drivers are less buggy. Not sure it will work on Windows 10.

Anyhow after all that "pre-testing" and fanfare how great windows 10 is, all I can say is here we go again.

XP is still the best upgrade I ever did. It fun to try to find where sh* has been moved to (NOT).
I guess I should be happy it works.

OP could you change your topic to "Kodi with Windows 10 freezes, and doesn't play certain video's on AMD graphics"
Maybe people will find it faster on google. Took me a while to find the fix.

Here is the fix.
Got it from -> https://community.amd.com/thread/184785

You must uninstall you AMD drivers, and it's programs.

Unzip [Guru3D.com]-DDU and run the cleaner program to clean all the AMD stuff from your computer.
It will reboot to safe mode to delete everything.
Reboot
Run [Guru3D]-AMD-Catalyst-15.4Beta-64Bit-Win8.1-Apr9.exe
This an old Windows 8.1 beta driver and seems to work much better than the v15.7 package.

Enable DVXA2 acceleration. Now every video plays correctly. BTW I'm still running the DirectX beta as suggested.
I seem to still have file sharing problems with my remote thumbnalis from my server on startup only.

Here is a dropbox link to the 2 files you need, to save you time looking for them.
