A local file on a kodi client can be made to show its file extension via the "Appearance" menu. However, when the same file is presented to the client by another kodi server, through dlna sharing, the file extension is not visible on the client (even though playback is fine). This feature can be helpful when debugging dlna streaming problems. I am experimenting with kodi 15.2 on OSX (server) and kodi 15.2 on OSX and android (clients).
