I'm running kodi on a MXQ android box but the picture is jerking, the sound is fine.

Any ideas why or how to rectify this?

If you cannot follow this thread then I suggest you return the device ASAP and get one that works from the AMLogic sticky thread at the top of the forum.
Basically your firmware is rubbish.
