I'm recently started having the same problem with XBMC r33078 on 64-bit Ubuntu 10.04: Immediate crash whenever I try to play an HDHomeRun stream.
This is with the latest version from the team-xbmc-svn PPA. I had the exact same problem with XBMC 9.11 stable earlier this year, but it was working fine until recently with the SVN build.

Log:

Sad  Can't watch HDHomeRun in XBMC Dharma B2 Post: #284
I am trying to use XBMC Dharma B2 on Windows to watch live channels from HDHomeRun device. I have a folder that contains a set of *.strm files for all the channels. I have added a new video source to this folder in XBMC. If I click on that source I can see all the files. When I click on any of them in XBMC it shows "working..." icon and then nothing more happens. I click one more time and see the message "Playback failed. One or more items failed to play. See the log file for details". I was trying to find the log info and could not: no log file in the XBMC folder. At the same time I can watch HDHomeRun streams using HDHomeRun player or VLC. What am I doing wrong or is it a bug?

Add XBMC manually to windows firewall and select the private tick box, then enable UPNP in XBMC. This should work mate, if not let me know!

That worked mate. Thanks a lot! I am going to put this information on the XBMC Wiki if you don't mind.

One thing though is that the TV playback is somewhat uncomfortable. The image is slightly jerking constantly like every few seconds both in a full-screen and window modes. If I turn on de-interlacing it gets a bit smoother but immediately you can see the sound and video slightly and constantly out of sync: video is constantly delayed for a fraction of second but still it's noticeable. CPU load is no more that 40% and HDD is not used so it's how XBMC works 'cause VLC does not have that effect. It's is usable bot not perfect.

Glad it worked, also to use the HDHomerun with WMC you will laso have to add that to windows firewall otherwise it cant detect the streams. You can add an XBMC icon to WMC by using this http://xbmcwmc.teknowebworks.com/

WMC is far better for using with the Homerun as you make full use of the EPG and record etc.

Im not so sure about the sync issues your having, I would have said it may be down to netowrk traffic or wifi but if VLC has no issues then it cant be that. Does this happen when viewing channels with silicondust quicktv viewer? Also give WMC ago see if that has the same issue.

I really hope XBMC will work with this product. Any Thoughts?

I'm sure the base hardware tech is the same as the standard homerun so see :

I LOVE my HDhomerun. I think it is one of the coolest devices ever. But I am not excited at all about this new one.

The whole point of a new HDhomerun is CableCARD support.

CableCARD = Screw over every open source PVR software in existence and add unwanted DRM to the process of recording TV.

If this was the WMC forum we would all be singing its praises, as it allows one to finally interact with cableboxes.

But no PVR backend I use will have cablecard support (MythTV, TVheadend) and so therefore this new HDHomerun is absolutely useless in my eyes.

I mean, it can work maybe:

Depending on how evil your cable provider is...

Mini/Micro ITX Frontend (with SSD) + Mediaserver/NAS + Logitech Harmony + LCD/LED/Plasma TV + Nice AV Receiver + XBMC + USENET + sabnzbd + sickbeard +couchpotato
