SiliconDust HDHomeRun Networked Digital Cable TV / HDTV Tuner support built-into XBMC
#61
depends on what you mean by virtual channel? i could never figure out if there was some internal channel list in the hdhomebox and how to use that.

the channel you specify is the frequency.

elupus Wrote:did you try just hdhomerun://

then you should be able to atleast browse to your device (I assume now you have a new enough build)

Ok, I tried this out and can't get it to work either.

When I use a 'hdhomerun://' source, I can browse to my HDHomerun. I get two listings, one for each tuner. However, after that, no matter what I do I always get "Current Stream: N/A", and nothing when I select it. Should I be doing something with the HDHomerun PC application to select a stream?

I tried using the full path from a strm file too, and that also always produces no results. Here's a few of the streams I've tried:

hdhomerun://1010D2C5/tuner0?channel=qam:81&program=3
hdhomerun://1010D2C5/tuner1?channel=14&program=1

(The first is from my cable provider, and the second is from an antenna.) Neither do anything when I select them, no black screen, just nothing like I didn't select it at all. Are they the correct syntax? I noticed higher in this thread the 'channel' keyword is replaced by the word 'tune'. I tried it both ways, same results. Thanks for any help!

Where you have qam:81 i believe the 81 is wrong, you need to put the frequency of that channel, try that

when you browse to the hdhomerun it will try to start to stream to whatever the tuner is currenlty tuned to, thus for that to give anything you will need to use the windows (or unix) app to select a channel first.

could somebody give me debug log of when they try to start one of those urls?

elupus how do i give you the log? i am playing around with it, using "hdhomerun://" and the long version, both i get Current Stream: N/A , i checked for the stream on my laptop and it works, when i clicj the stream on the xbox the stream on the laptop stops, so at least something is happening, but the stream on the xbox still says N/A

I just tried the newest version myself, and my results are similar to previous reports in this thread. Browsing to hdhomerun:// finds my device and two tuners, but the current stream is N/A. If I play a stream through my desktop while I click on Current Stream, the desktop stream freezes. This tells me that at least XBMC is doing something.

While playing with some other apps I found a setting on the HDHomeRun where you specify target IP. Maybe this needs to be set to an entire network (/24) to enable multicasting ?

is this the only way to have it work by having the local pc set the channel? or can we setup icons like i am doing to specific channels

The intended outcome was that we should be able to tune to specific channels by specifying qam/channel/program in the hdhomerun:// uri. From the log I provided we can see that it does attempt to access the streams but it isn't able to find them on the hdhr.
