Yes there is an option to configure vbv but I don't know if it's necessary to use it with RPi Smile

I usually go with these when I use x264 as they are recommended for Blu-ray compatibility : http://www.x264bluray.com/home/1080i-p http://www.x264bluray.com/home/1080i

My thinking is that Blu-ray compatible is not a bad way to go - it may not be the most efficient, but most things will play it and it will be nice and compliant.

If you are using x264 within ffmpeg then the command line options will be different - but the numbers and --bluray-compat are useful guides.

I'd agree. Stick with Blu-ray compliant settings. That gives the best chance of playing on a Pi and other platforms.
