1080 content not being downscaled
#1
Hi,

I am running updated osmc on a raspberry pi 2 (Kodi Jarvis).

I noticed that 1080 content isn't being rescaled to match my resolution and thus gets cut off along with part of the gui.
I am using my old trusty LG plasma which is 720p only. My resolution is set to desktop (which is using 1360x768 and giving a 1:1 pixel scale) and the gui is limited to 720p. Obviously, with this issue I can't watch any 1080 content. It happens with any skin and irrespective of the codec being used in the file. All kodi test samples at 1080i or 1080p result in the image being cut off.

I don't remember this happening with Isengard. Could this be happening due to OSMC or is it a known bug in Kodi?

If the gui is being cut off them it may be an overscan effect. Try playing with the zoom modes on the display itself.
You may also be better off running in a standard TV resolution (1080p or 720p).

Nope. The problem appears even if I set the resolution to 720. If I set it to 1080, the gui immediately gets cut. And on my tv, I can only change between 4:3 and 16:9 modes - no fancy modes for hdmi.

Could the problem be related to this thread http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=262267 a couple of posts below? Nobody replied to it so I'm not sure what happened in his case.

If you don't see the edged of the image, the correct place to fix it is disabling overscan on the display.

If that is not possible, then you can calibrate kodi, or use the skin zoom setting:

Note: if you use "adjust display refresh to match video" you will need to calibrate for each refresh rate.

Thanks for your help. I mean, you're a legend Smile

There is no overscan on the tv set. I've made sure of that on the service menu. And I'm familiar with calibration but we're talking abou trying to calibrate a 1080w image that is being displayed on a 720w canvas. That is, reduce about 30% the picture size through calibration. Besides, I've never had this problem before kodi 16.

Anyway, shouldn't a 1080p image be downscaled automatically? I thought any content bigger than the resolution would be downscaled. Or did they change that because of the need to display the gui in a resolution when displaying 4k content?

I mean, I'm not talking about a small overscan here. I' talking about a1080p picture being displayed on a 720p tv set without any adjustment to the resolution!
