OP, do I understand you that you want to have all 6 or so drives ready of access or mounted at once? If you can do with just 4 there is no problem. I have used regular HD docks for years with 2 tb drives, 3.5 and 2.5 and Openelec. Use the docks and there is no ques of power shortages/mixups or freezing.
I have only two docks with two bays, on two different pi in two rooms. But I see now that there are 4 dock bays. Two four dock bays should do it for you. Or if you can get by with less, just swap the drives out and in, though not the best idea long term for the connections.
The cost of the docs is more than worth it. Best of luck.
