[REQUEST] BBC iPlayer (Video) Plugin or Script?
Is there any easy way to save the stream, or have the plugin download the stream entirely before playback?
Thanks for the info. I have updated the plugin to include the BBC HD channel.

Auto currently just selects the stream that will play on all platforms which is Flash VP6. It only runs at 512kbps and isn't as advanced as H.264 hence the blockness. Once builds are available for all platforms and have been well tested I will updated the plugin to use a H.264 when Auto is selected.

Quality of 'in the browser' verus XBMC may be a matter of the video playback settings XBMC is using (you can experiment with these).

Cheers
Dink

I just tried the Robin Hood video mentioned, yeah it looks pretty good. The highest quality setting made this video look like a 'very good' tv signal. Didn't really remind me of my experience with bbc hd on my tv but it's a lot better. The flash videos from before.. they were ok when things were still (like interviews), but as we know.. got a bit blocky when lots of motion happened. That's the bitrates fault I'm guessing..?

The numbers speak for themselves, this is the most popular vid plugin (at least in the UK). Great work Dink.

by the way, 'Auto' setting for video... how does that work, does it look at your internet speed and pick a setting accordingly? Or is more concerned with choosing whichever video quality setting the video is available for?

just checked the 'in the browser' version of the same video. Looks a *bit* nicer. The xbmc plugin definitely not to be sniffed at tho! Big Grin

great work!

Many thanks for the prompt answer.

I'm still pondering if I can pipe the stream to VLC or MPlayer and have those buffer to disk, effectively saving without loss? This is a great plugin, but thanks to BBC not keeping episodes for too long, I like the 'backup' my viewing ;-)

Incidentally, since BBC have changed to Adobe Air, it would seem it's only a matter of time before the Air client arrives on portable devices and the DRM appears across all streams. The only reason it doesn't today is that MS-DRM isn't available on most non-windows platforms esp Mobiles. Fortunately I've been able to overcome the MS-DRM, but Adobe Air is gonna set us all back :-(
Hope that this is the right place. I am using the latest PPC xbmc and am having problems with the iplayer plugin. It loads of the names of shows fine etc etc however when i click on one to watch i get nothing at all and then xbmc eventually freezes. The best of itv player works absolutely fine so not really sure whats up. I am using the latest version of the plugin.

I really need to have a look at a debug log to figure out what's going on. Paste your log onto http://pastebin.com/

Forgive me if this is a dumb question, but where is the setting menu to choose the stream quality? I can't find it :confused2:

Some info http://wiki.xbmc.org/?title=Videos_Navig...ntext_Menu

If you are on Windows when looking at a list of channels or a list of series (but not programmes) right click or press "c" to bring up the context menu.

I know how to use XBMC Smile I'm using Aeon and when I choose Settings from the context menu it just takes me to general Video playback settings, not anything iPlayer specific.
Found it. Sorry I totally missed the "Plugin settings" in context.
Anyone tried Xbox or is the current build not high enough?

That's easy enough to do so .... I made a few changes. Now the first level in the plugin lists
  • TV
  • Radio
  • Settings
New version with this minor update available at http://code.google.com/p/xbmc-iplayerv2/

The build on T3CH is only revision 19585. It needs to include SVN:20015

Looking at the log there doesn't seem to be a failure from the plugin side. The stream has been found, setup and passed to XBMC at which point XBMC has tried to play the stream but failed as the RTMP stream is being processed for some reason.

The build info from your log "Built on May 5 2009 (SVN:19953M)". If it is possible could you grab a build from the 7th or later (post SVN:20015) and give that a try as some RMTP fixes went in then.

BTW has anyone else gotten the IPlayer plugin to work on PPC Mac?

Cheers
