Ubuntu Mobile (formerly called "Ubuntu Embedded") as reference distribution?

Question
Have any of you Linux developers had time to try out Ubuntu Mobile and Embedded (UME) yet?

BETA from their SVN that is:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MobileAndEmbedded
https://code.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-mobile/
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MobileAndEmbedded/FAQ
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UMEGuide

Their FAQ does currently state:
Quote:Currently, the project is focused on x86 processors

Daily builds of UME:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MobileAndEmbedde...rUMEDevice

PS! ...hmm, on seconds looks, maybe "Ubuntu Mobile and Embedded (UME) Edition" is not the same as "EmbeddedUbuntu", ...in any case it is "Ubuntu Mobile and Embedded (UME) Edition" that I was first refering to and that is what I think will be the optimal Linux ditrobution to base a XBMC Live CD distro on.

Quote:Future Intel Technology - Video Acceleration API (VAAPI)

A new video acceleration API is currently being developed, in an effort lead by Intel. This new API supports more complete offload (like VLD) as well as iDCT and MC, and can support acceleration of MPEG-4, H.264, VC-1, as well as MPEG-2. (Extending XvMC was considered, but due to its original design for MPEG-2 MoComp only, it made more sense to design an interface from scratch that can fully expose the video decode capabilities in today's GPUs). The website for this effort is: http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/vaapi

The first public version of Ubuntu Mobile and Embedded (UME) Edition will possible feature this new API:

http://wiki.ubuntu.com/mobile-hw-decode-va-api
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/MobileAndEmbedded/Graphics
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/MobileAndEmbedded/MediaPlayer
Let's hope the other GPU manufacturers (ei. NVIDIA and AMD/ATI) also joins the efforts of this same new API.

The more load we can send to the GPU the better the overall experience ^^
Good things are coming, let's hope everyone is thinking in the same way,
so that ATI and NVIDIA also jump on this train, and we can take full advantage of this Big Grin

Would also allow for cheaper CPU's, so that's a good thing for a cheap system that does lots of sweet things (which is the goal of xbmc for linux, I think)
