WMA Pro Audio Codec (Microsoft WMVHD/WVC1 Sound)?

spiff Wrote:well, the issue is that nobody has reversed engineered the audio codec used in those files - most likely due to the ability to load the binary in apps like mplayer.

There's an FFmpeg GSOC project for a WMA Pro decoder. Smile

i have been throwing as many file types as i can at xbmc for windows, and mostly it comes out great. however....

this file;

--- File Information ---
File Name: The Fifth Element 16x9 720p WM9 HD-DVD.wmv
File Size: 4,644,930,112 Bytes

--- Video Information ---
Video Codec Name: WMP v9 (VC-1 Simple/Main)
Video Bitrate: 34696kbps
Duration: 2:05:54

--- Audio Information ---
Audio Codec: 0x0162 (Windows Media Audio 9 Professional)
Audio Sample Rate (Hz): 48000
Audio Bitrate Type : VBR
Audio Bitrate: 385kbps
Audio Channel Count: 6

will play video fine, but has no audio playback when played in xbmc, however the same windows pc can playback the file fine in wmp.

the xbmc.log file shows "unsupported audio codec"

just thought youd like to know, wiso and the boys

XBMC for windows does not use mplayer.

ffmpeg is probably missing an opensource decoder for it.

I am new to XBMC for Windows.
I am using XBMC (some years) now on the XBOX and do not have problems with playback of WMA lossless audio files.

When I try the same file within XBMC on windows (build august 23) playback does not start.

Using a WMA 192 KB/s does work

Any idea if this is not supported or do I need some configuration?

XBMC for Xbox uses MPlayer to load Microsoft binary DLL codecs for WMA Pro ("Windows Media Audio Professional") lossless audio decoder. XBMC for Linux/Mac/Windows does not feature MPlayer but instead uses Team-XBMC's own in-house developed "PAPlayer" and "DVDPlayer" players to playback all audio files, and niether of them can currently load binary DLL codecs, they only rely on FFmpeg (open source codec suit), ...so when FFmpeg supports WMA lossless then XBMC for Linux/Mac/Windows will not be far behind to support it too. FYI; FFmpeg developers is currently working on a WMA lossless codec, see http://code.google.com/soc/2008/ffmpeg/a...E3DFF1EA23

For more information about why Mplayer and binary DLL codecs are not supported under XBMC for Linux/Mac/Windows please see:

Not supported by FFmpeg and thus not supported by XBMC for Linux/Mac/Windows, see:
