Hi, I'm using my kodi for long time, suddenly it simply won't start. I tried to reinstall (without remove) but same issue. log shows that "Default skin 'skin.confluence' not found! Terminating.." however i see the skin in the file system, and also confluence is not my default skin, but phenomenal is. any idea how to solve this?

It means you have Banned_add-on (wiki) in your system. No help for such add-ons here.

Use the installer found here in the download section.

Watch out for (avoid) 'wizards','auto-installers' and the likes.
You will be fine.

how can i know which one is the banned add on and how do i remove it? I haven't installed any new add on for a long time.
Does it sound ok to you that kodi won't start because of banned addon? why isn't there any request or warning to remove such addons? why isn't the log shows this is indeed the issue Huh

thanks, but i already tried to reinstall it with official kodi executable (ran over existing installation) and it didn't help.

Don't reinstall over existing. Completely remove first.
After uninstall and before reinstall, do the following:

Start-run
Type %appdata%

If there is a kodi related folder, delete or rename before reinstall
If that doesn't help I am afraid you need to ask the person/company that sent you down this road...

Also for the future please do not post logs directly here. Use PasteBin or XBMClogs as detailed in the wiki procedure - debug log (wiki).

Also if an add-on is offering you access for free to TV shows, channels or movies for free that you would normally have to pay for, or which are in cinema still, you can consider them as banned add-ons (wiki).

i still don't understand if the banned addons are the one causing kodi not to run? how can i remove the addons if kodi won't come up?

Please read the rules.
No support is given when these are installed.
You can try reverting by renaming the Kodi folder in %appdata% and then start Kodi, but it would be better to reinstall as I pointed out.

in article i linked to, it is explained some of the 'not-to-be-trused addons' make modifications to other addons, including skins.
it's not unlikely one of them crippled your confluence skin in such a bad way kodi can't load it anymore.

I only read the first few comments. If the addon isn't offered by kodi... on Kodi website or through the app itself (with default repos only) then it most likely not approved.

Most ppl do use Kodi with addons not supported by Kodi. I'm saying I got my haircut one day while watching a tv show in the chair at the barbershop on a TV that had a 'hacked' fire TV box runing Kodi.

The addons you get elsewhere are pretty unpredictable so like the app tells you with its message.

There are alot of those auto setups that install a whole setup.... nice but you don't really need them. Just a little time with Google will go a long way.

Safe bet is to stick with what Kodi supports.

Install kodi in a separate directory i.e. c:\kodi then make a shortcut after install C:\kodi\kodi.exe -p

This will be a portable install and cannot have any of that crap in it.

Then you could delete the old install and all relevant files

i.e. C:\Users\%your name%\AppData\Roaming\Kodi and c:\program files\Kodi or c:\program files (x86\Kodi

And just run kodi as a portable install will make no difference; but you WILL have had a naughty addon and how to know where it came from is YOU installed it from a source not via the kodi repository.

Bear in mind also I did a pretty big experiment on these wizards and the traffic whilst streaming is scary to say the least i.e. incoming packets and outgoing nothing to do with the stream never mind deleting legit addons.
