@alturismo highjacking a thread is _one_ thing but then not posting any Debug Log is another.
I have read the reports, but it does work much better using SPMC or Kodi 16 on 3.2 (near enough same as 3.1).

3.2 is a mess though, refresh rate switching is broken on one of my TVs, but not the other Undecided

To resurrect an old thread... With new shield firmware 3.3, kodi v17 beta 5 and mediacodec (surface) disabled then I get good playback for SD and HD content Smile

It's not quite perfect (with any menu or osd overlays and mpeg2 interlaced content kodi stutters and chokes) but by and large it's working!!

That's slightly better. Still loses sync for first 10 to 20s on channel change, particularly if going from SD mpeg2 to HD h.264 and vice versa. Once it has settled down PQ is superb.

There are no deinterlacing settings now - I assume it's all done by the shield now? Looks very good.

I also installed this version.
With my configuration, Tvheadend as backend on an Ubuntu server, it takes 2-5 sec to switch TV channels.

Everything else work also extremely well.
- With passthrough set audio formats Dolby True HD, Dolby True HD 96/24, DTS Master Audio, DTS-HD HRA 5.1, DTS 96/24, AC3 Stereo, AC3 5.1, DTS 5-chs, PCM, LPCM Stereo, MP2 Stereo
- To switch audio streams
- To move forward and backward in played files with the Shield Remote Control
- Lip sync
- Even the Blu-ray menu
- File formats .ts, .mkv, .mpg, .m2ts, .IFO, .VOB

So who is using deinterlacing with Shield Firmware v3.3 and viewing 25/50fps OTA Interlaced TV streams.

Is this now working properly on the Shield ?
As this was where the deinterlacing issues were with DVB UK/EURO/AUS/NZ OTA TV viewing ?

I really wish Users would update their Control Panel details and Include their general location, even if only a country would help a great deal !!
Especially when talking about ATSC or DVB TV.

Me in the UK. And it works fine, actually very well. Watched the football kat night using it and it handled it very well

Updated my profile.
I'm using firmware v.3.3 and viewing 50 fps TV streams. The HD stream in Sweden is 720P. I don't know about the SD streams, but I think they aren't interlaced.

I'm from Belgium. Most TV streams are interlaced 50Hz. Using satellite provider "TV-Vlaanderen".
Updated my Shield Android TV to firmware 3.3.
Can confirm deinterlacing is working again on the shield.

Also here in Germany, mostly 1080i, working again, what is a bit confusing, Kodi Info says 50p, like Deinterlacing is done by Shield ahead.

Thanks guys, I'm really only interested in 576i (SD) and 1080i (HD) streams in mpeg2 and H264 running at 25fps.

I will update the START HERE thread then as this deinterlacing issue looks fixed, took nVIDIA long enough !

720p TV is already deinterlaced. p stands for progressive. Wink

My tvheadend server is using UK freesat, so 576i mpeg2 & 1080i h264 (all at 50hz though, not sure anywhere does 25hz interlaced content? That wouldn't be pretty).

I've also tested 1080i50 mpeg2 - also works well.

25fps - proper Full motion deinterlacing (eg YADIFx2) will be output at 50Hz for smooth video playback.
Here is Oz we get 720x576i 25fps content on virtually all the mpeg2 channels.
