XBMC Windows Mobile PDA Controller

Hi All,

Ive just completed the first BETA of a PDA application which utilizes the awesome power of XBMC through its Web Interface.

I will post the source code up if I get enough interest, and will of course take email requests for the CAB file.

The BETA has the following basic features;
Search Artist/song/album
Playlist Functionality
Remote Control

The idea behind this was to create a lightweight interface for the PDA which allowed the searching of the XBMC SQLLite database. The XBMC interface is awesome, but when you have 17000 titles in your music folders its kinda laborious scrolling through (and even typing a filter using the remote). This PDA app utilizes the nice and handy touch screen keyboard that ships with windows Mobile.

Anyhoo, If you guys are interested drop me a mail and i'll ship it to you.

Once again, any ideas for improvements are welcome.

Cheers All

Hello,

I'd be interested in the cab and the source too. Have you made any progress on the client since you posted? What are you using as a compiler?

Hey Kev,

Sounds awesome Wink Could I have the cab?

Also might be cool if we could find a way to use the UPnP server in XBMC to stream the media to the PDA as well - (some folks like me have t-mobile web'n'walk on their PDAs so could stream there entire media collection from anywhere!).

Anyway thanks for the program and I'll look forward to playing with it ;-) - I'm really glad to see someone working on some XBMC/PDA integration ;-)

Hi!

Sounds Great! I waited so long for something like this. Could you upload it to rapidshare.com or elsewhere...?

It's less work for you, to upload the package only one time than mailing it to everybody who wants it.

What IDE/Compiler do you use? Also this UPnP thing TheBoxMan asked sounds very great, it would be awsome....

Did anyone receive a cab from the creator? Is there a version I can test? I'd love to see a application like the one used on the the PSP.

I really have to dig into programming for the .NET compact environment....

Nope I wonder if the developer lost interest or was hoaxing us? I never recieved a cab to test. shame as this would have been great.

I've not tried that flash app for the PSP but I'll pop it onto one of my xboxes this evening and take it for a spin. FOr the most part I use XBMC remote interface homebrew app for mine. You'll need to be running cfw but once you are it works like a dream. great interface, grabs thumbs for currently playing tracks, oh and if you can use your PSP as a remote controller for your xbox too Wink very cool.

I have heard there are custom pages you can drop into your web directory for PDAs to control XBMC via network/net but I can't find any (there are links on the XBMC wiki to allxboxskins but as best I can determine there are nolonger any PDA skins on there...

A native App would be superior though. Not leave us messing arround with opra mini/mobile or *cringes* pocket IE.

Making use of ftp streaming or something to the PDA would also be an amazing feature Wink

What is "cfw" and what homebrew app are you using?

This one looks realy nice, but it's not working with Internet Explorer Mobile and not working as expected with MiniMo.

Then there is MobileXBMC 2. Which is the best working, as far as I know. But it's far from finished and very basic.

If you go to http://www.allxboxskins.com/skins/index....XBMC&cat=0 and search for "mobile" (without the quotes) you'll find another nice looking skin. But it isn't working (links don't work).

I wish I had the time to create and maintain a nice mobile app.... Although a 'real' application would be nicer.

CFW = custom firmware. To run homebrew apps on a PSP you either need to be running official 1.0 or 1.5 firmware or custom firmware. Whether or not you can install it easily depends on your current firmware version. The easiest is called a pandora's battery install works on everything and is very easy. The only problem is.........you need a psp that's already running cfw to make the battery.

There are some exploits for certain games that will allow you to do it too.

Anyway once you're running that you want XBMC RI (XBMC Remote Interface). It's a great controller. I love it to bits.
