I'm gonna try Ubuntu's drivers now..
I thought Envy's and Ubuntu's restricted drivers was the same, only Envy downloaded directly from http://www.ati.com and therefore you get a newer version of the driver...

Yes! It works with Ubuntu's restricted ATI drivers!
Thank you team XBMC!!!Big GrinRoflBig Grin

Works for me, using ATI's Catalyst 7.11 drivers. First time I've gotten video out of the XBMC for over a month, so I'm ecstatic. Keep up the good work!

Still same problems here though. :/

Using 7.12 drivers.

i was wondering if theres a way of getting proper video playback with ati cards. @devs .. are you still trying to fix this or do you all use nvidia cards? .)

since the latest fglrx version is just as crappy as the version before, i will go and buy an nvidia card if the next driver (8.3) still suxx ..

There seem to be some problems with x1200 cards.
Is that what you have?

I have a Radeon Mobility X1400 in my Shuttle X1400 and that works very well with the Catalyst drivers from the AMD page. The only thing that doesn't seem to work is Vertical sync to blank so I get tearing in videos.

exactly.. yesterday the opensource ati driver got xv support, but i cant get it to run. xvinfo atleast says it support xvideo but the driver is missing direct rendering .. did anyone got the oss driver to work with xbmc yet?

Quote:Bottom-line: On my laptop (Compaq nc6000) I can view a 720p video with XBMC now. And That's awesome !!!

Glad you said that, I'm trying to make that work on my nc6000 now... I did a clean install and tried to run XBMC to discover that video playback was all green. Then I went through a few HOWTOs and tried the drivers from ATI's website with no luck. Went and reinstalled Ubuntu last night. Any advice on which video drivers you are using to accomplish this, and if there is a date of XBMC that I should avoid?

thanks,
Devan

Use the restricted drivers (from Ubuntu). Nothing else.
You can't use the 3D desktop stuff with those drivers, but XBMC runs fine.

Restricted drivers are working great!
My nc6000 has a Radeon Mobility X300 in it.
I was hesitant on installing what I now know are called the restricted drivers because I thought fglrx were the ATI provided drivers.

Now if only I can figure out why my output switching(Fn+F4) isn't working in Ubuntu Smile But I suppose this isn't the place.

Thanks,
Devan

Hello.
I have some issues (green tint with radeon, small greyscale video on the upper left corner, some color on the rest of the screen with fglrx) with video playback on xbmc.
My system is running ubuntu 8.04 (up-to-date), Ati Mobility Radeon X700, xbmc svn rev 12670.
I collected some debugging infos and screenshots(using the open source radeon and ubuntu's supplied "restricted driver" fglrx):
http://gauntlet.unixag-zw.fh-kl.de/~pasc0010/xbmcdbg/

Anyone knows a fix for this? I can't change the graphics adapter, because it's my notebooks' built-in grafics adapter.

Thanks,
EvilDevil

EvilDevil,

It is due to the new ATI drivers in Hardy 8.04. If you installed Gutsy and used the included ATI restricted drivers, you won't get the green screen issue.

Hi Dustin!

I just installed Ubuntu 7.10 and compiled XBMC SVN Rev. 12681 and it's working now, even with the open source radeon drivers.
Thanks a lot!

Had trouble with 7.10 and the ATI restricted drivers that Ubuntu wants to install, the interface would load but if I went to settings, the laptop would lock hard and have to be power cycled. I then ran the Envy script and it is working properly.
