Hi I am trying to download and install Kodi on my new firestick and I am having trouble. I have adblink working but whenever I download Kodi from their website it gets downloaded as a zip file and there is nothing there in apk format for me to install to my firestick.....am I doing something wrong?

When you say 'their' website I assume you mean from here - the link at the top of the page?
Change the .zip to .apk and carry on.
It's not you (probably).

And why would you post in the Windows section with a title about Kodi for Windows when you're trying to install on a firestick?
Colour me confused...

If you're indeed trying to install windows Kodi on a fire stick it could be something of a challenge...
