If anyone is excited to purchase an rk3399 based android tv box based it's on it specs, i would suggest holding off -- at least for this specific model: http://www.gearbest.com/tv-box-mini-pc/pp_615491.html

Mine stops responding to input within a few seconds of making it to the main menu.

The remote is USB wifi and stops responding. I tried a second usb wifi keyboard to see if it was related to the remote or dongle, but it is not. The device itself isn't entirely freezing because the menu animations still play. Also another bug i'm seeing is the front page app shortcuts have doubled, and then tripled after rebooting. The netflix app appeared once, then twice, now three times in the shortcut section. Not sure if its related to the input issue.

bottom line is: this device isn't polished yet. I'd wait until there's a new firmware revision and make sure you buy one that ships with it.

Hope this feedback helps others, and i hope i'm not left with a $140 paperweight.

You've learned the lesson that many of us have: don't buy android boxes based on hardware specs.

Hope you can return it and buy something better..

Thx. for warning others. Its the reason why I DO NOT recommend cheap Chinese Android boxes that comes with poor Firmware and no support.

And definitely, do not buy anything with Rockchip in it, no matter how Specced up the devices may be.

USB has now stopped working entirely. Even after factory restore. I would not recommend this product. Also, i would not recommend buying from GearBest. Their options were to refund me 15% of the purchase price, or send me a new one at 85% of the cost of the original ... Basically they're only willing to give up their profit margin on the device.

another update -- i powered it on out of curiosity today and i was prompted with a message about system update not working, at which point USB started working again. It worked long enough for me to pair a bluetooth keyboard -- this gave me enough time to discover that ethernet has stopped working. I managed to use wifi to install spmc, which blank-screened the entire device the moment i tried to run the plex add-on. Since this happened, I have not been able to get the device to display anything ever again. I don't know if its toast, or if HDMI just broke now as well. My TV detects there is a device connected on HDMI3 but there's no display. Either way, its 100% useless.

yet another update -- if i leave the device unplugged for a full day, it seems to work for a bit. Before giving up i want to try replacing the firmware. I found many .img files online that are supposedly compatible. How do I go about doing this? I can get to the microSD card from recovery mode but i do not see the file.

It gives instructions about how to use Android Tool V 2.35, which I think was put out by Rockchip. All you need is an image suitable for the RK3399.

I bought a R-TV K99 and same experience.

Ethernet does not work and the device freezes (blue screen or death) at random intervals when running Kodi 17.1

The seller GEEKBUYING offers NO support and wont refund.

I havent seen any firmware upgrades for this since 0302.

A shame as when it does run it plays 4K at 60P which is NICE.

Hi All, New Firmware for the R99 TV box released that fixes the issues mentioned above has now been released. 
There are 2 versions available rooted and unrooted. R99 TV box Firmware link. And this is the R99 TV box that this firmware supports. I suspect you have the same device.
I hope this helps a few people out.

i had the same issues and found that they replaced plug and fixed the interference
