v17 Kodi Becoming Unresponsive
#1
I had Kodi 16.1 installed and things worked great for a long time. I then updated an add-on called Sports Devil to the 03-28-17 build. Somehow it didn't uninstall the older version (can't recall what it was) and both were running. I uninstalled the old one and things seemed ok. I typically leave the PC (Win 8.1, 4770k, Asus Z87 Pro, G-Force 610) on 24/7 so that when the TV is turned on, Kodi is waiting and ready to go. I have a windows remote that is easier for the family to use, as well as a wireless keyboard to interact with the system. Since the Sports Devil update, after an hour (give or take) the remote and keyboard buttons stop working to navigate or do anything in kodi. Kodi is not froze, per say, but its acts like when there are multiple windows up (in windows) and the ones that are "inactive" do not respond to the keyboard, until the desired windows is clicked back in. That is exactly how this works, if the mouse is moved on the wireless keyboard and the mouse clicks somewhere on the kodi screen (Kodi is in full screen), the keyboard buttons and wireless windows remote starts working again. I figured maybe it was the add-on, since that is all that was changed that I know of, and maybe it had issues with a version of Kodi that was not the newest. I updated Kodi to 17.1, and installed confluence skin so that it looked like the version I was using. The problem was still happening, so I uninstalled sports devil .. I liked the idea of having it but hadn't used it in at least a year, so figured it wasn't worth keeping if it was going to cause issues. Even with it gone, Kodi still has the problem, so I don't understand what the issue is. In addition, since going to 17.1, every time I turn the tv off, and then back on, Kodi is sitting on 1/4th of the screen and I have to exit it and restart it to get it back to normal. Since Kodi can be waiting (inactive) for long periods of time, frequently throughout the day as the TV is turned on/off, the problem has really become a pain. I apologize if this is not in the correct place to post, but I don't know if this is a video, add-on, or ?? issue. Thanks to anyone who can help!

Sports Devil? Who knows what that did to your system, which is why it's on our list of banned addons (wiki). I'm sure you saw that when you signed up here and agreed to the forum rules.

If you have uninstalled that, you're a step towards recovery. However, having installed one piracy addon, I have to assume you have others and/or some dubious repositories as well - any of which could equally eat bits of your system, as they can over-write the official code.

I would strongly suggest that you wipe it and reinstall from this site. Then and only then we can start to look at a debug log (wiki) if the problem persists.

(Moving to Windows support while I'm here).

Thank you for moving me to the correct thread location. Thank you for the suggestions. I think that was the only video add-on that was on there ... a friend set it up over a year ago for a fight. The rest of my collection sources from about 22TB of internal disks. Since I uninstalled it after I updated to 17.1, could I just reinstall 17.1 (or a nightly, so not to uninstall and lose settings) or is there a way to back up settings / internal libraries so I can load it when I do reinstall ? Sorry if these are basic Q's and from now on I am going to be more careful about what gets put on my system.

As @Prof Yaffle didn't delete your message the second he saw the banned add-on, I can only assume he thinks there is merit in your case. I would follow his advice and wipe out with a fresh start. With that accomplished the present issues you have will vanish.

Code overlays and foreign code has a way of migrating back to muck up the works.

I very much appreciate the help and not being deleted ... I wish I had paid more attention to the fine print when signing up, so I wouldn't have opened a post up with a contraband add-on. The good part is that it was pointed out to me how bad the add-on is, not to mention if you guys are tagging this with piracy, I don't want it anywhere on my system. I will also be more diligent in the future about what gets installed on my system. I've gone digital with my dvd/blu-ray collection, and use Kodi as a personal Netflix that only houses my own collection, rather than hoards of stuff I'l never watch. I was actually going through all my add-ons and updating all that were not set to auto update, which how this happened.
