Recommendation for USB Tuner on raspberry pi3 in New Zealand

If your tuner doesn't work when connected (no files in /dev/dvb) then search for "get_dvb_firmware" to download the driver and reboot.

If you are ok with a terminal then you can then run dvb-fe-tool to show info about the card and that it is detected ok.

If it's ok then try:
Code:
dvbv5-scan /usr/share/dvb/dvb-t/nz-Christchurch

This will scan for channels in this area, other files available for other areas in that directory. It will show if your aerial is working since you should see channel names displayed after a few seconds. At least then you will know all is fine before trying some more GUI complicated pvr configuration.

Not necessarily, it really depends on the signal quality and strength you get at your place. I can tell you from experience that tuners are not equal in whether they'll work if the signal isn't good.
