Subtitle problem ...
#1
Hi All, Once again, thanks Elan for such an amazing job. I'm using XBMC since years, and this MAC version is SOOO good. To the problem. My Mac Mini C2D 2.0 GHz is using most recent build of OSXBMC. The problem is that there is no way to convince the software to show subtitles. I've tried almost everything. 1. Video settings (as some suggested) was calibrated to be sure that subs will be shown on screen in the right place. 2. Tried different language versions of subs. (BTW. I'm trying to use Polish ones) 3. Tried different types of subs (example: MicroDVD, srt .... and so on) 4. I've tried even to switch default font. NO GO !!! No Any ideas?

Can you have a look inside xbmc.log and see if there's anything pertaining to subtitles which might us give a clue?

Personally I have the opposite issue, subtitles are always appearing (if present) whether I want them or not. It's no big deal of course cos I can simply switch them off from the menu.

Turn subtitles off in the menu then keep scrolling down, there will be a button for "use this setting for all videos" or something similar. Subtitles will now be off by default unless you turn them on.

Great tip. Thanks, I hadn't even thought of using this setting to set the subtitle status.

Is this setting specific to OSX? I have dug through the subtitles menu on both Linux and XBOX and never seen a setting to keep subtitles off. On my XBOX, with older code admittedly, I cannot figure out a way to keep subtitles off - they show up on all DVD. Cannot get a DVD to play on the Linux version yet but your comment made me curious as to where this elusive menu resides.Eek

As you can probably see there is some default name for subs fixed and cannot be changed or deleted.
BTW. I've named my subs as it is described in XBMC doc, same name as movie but with different extension.
One thing that you might ask - Yes I did pressed "S" to "show" subtiles durning the playback.
HELP anybody ... Please Sad

This menu has been there before the linux port as far as I can remember. Just bring up the On screen disply, choose the video option, uncheck the radio button for subtitles... Now the tricky part, go down PAST the last option, there are two or three more at the bottom. The last one is the "save..." option that makes this the default for all videos. IMHO this should be off by default anyways as a lot of movies come with subs, while I rarely ever need them.

Looks like there is something wrong with your /tmp folder... Are you seeing any other issues (no spotlight available, problems dragging and dropping, etc.)? I would do the following:

1. in terminal run the following command:
Code:
sudo rm -r /tmp/xbmc
2. Open Disk utility and fix permissions on the startup volume

No Big thanks for this hint. Not the case. Permissions checked in DU, /tmp removed. Same old. BTW just to be sure, tried on my old XBOX Xbmc, the same movie with the same subs I'm using right now, it worked. Must be something different.

try running opening XBMC, running the movie with the subs, etc. then running:

Code:
ls -lR /tmp/xbmc
and paste the output here.

I've removed XBMC folder from Application Support (clean start) Just to be on the safe side.

Still no go.
