Apparently the standard XBox Media Center code has been able to play Microsoft DVR-MS files (as created using Microsoft Media Center to record TV programmes) for some time by using various MPlayer libraries.

Note: Older MPlayer libraries lost sync between the audio and video when playing DVR-MS files.

Does the Mac port of XBMC also support playing DVR-MS files? If so I could use it as a Mac based 'extender' to a Microsoft Media Center (running on a Mac under Boot Camp).

If it currently does not do this, then could this be considered for addition?

Note: A DVR-MS file is currently a fairly standard MPEG2 file wrapped in a Microsoft .asf container. However I would expect soon(ish) that there will also be H.264 files also in DVR-MS wrappers. The DVR-MS file also contains metadata such as the programme description.

Have you tried playing those samples yourself in XBMC for Mac OS X?

FYI; XBMC for Mac OS X (same as XBMC for Linux) do not use MPlayer, it uses Team-XBMC's own in-house developed video-player (DVDPlayer) which is based on FFmpeg, ...so if and when FFmpeg supports DVR-MS, then XBMC for Mac OS X will (soon) support DVR-MS as well.

Fairly standard is far from right . And since there is no documentation on it it's very hard to support.

Anyway, it's supported to about the same extent as on xbox, as we switch back and fro between using ffmpeg or mplayer native demuxers for a long time.
